Final Exam Guideline

Your final exam could take one of the following two modalities: (1) a review paper; or (2) a Web page.  All students will make presentations of their work.

If you decide to prepare a web page, then you are allowed to work in couples.

Length

Your review paper will not exceed 12 pages.  However, your Web page could be shorter.  The duration of your presentation WILL NOT exceed 8 minutes. Two minutes will be reserved for the questions period.

Contents

Any subject of your choice related to pain in humans. The use of an interdisciplinary approach (biological, psychological, social, and cultural) is encouraged. The consideration of the cultural dimension is essential.

Format

You are advised to follow the academic standards for preparing your work. In general, your work (two modalities) will contain the following parts: (1) abstract; (2) introduction; (3) main argument; (4) discussion; (5) conclusion; (6) references. There are many books on how to prepare a review paper, and how to give and prepare a presentation. It is highly recommended to read these books A Guide for Writing Research Papers Based on Styles Recommended by The American Psychological Association. One of the most important grading criteria will be the formal academic standard of your work (paper structure and contents). Other important criteria include the quality of your argument; evidence of scientific documentation; and the accuracy of your statements, among others.

Students who are preparing a web page are asked to conform to a uniform design. Simple pictures and graphics are welcomed. Please follow the web design of the British Medical Journal. British Medical Journal  Click on "Current issue" and select an article.

Deadlines

You will be scheduled the day and time for your presentation. Presentations will start on Dec 12.

For those preparing a web page, it is highly recommended to submit a draft page one week before the final presentation. Submit the URL of your page by email (no floppy disks).

Final remarks

Excellent work will be considered for publication in our course web page.

GOOD WORK!
