Introduction to culture and pain (Zborowski, Cultural components in Responses to Pain); Anglo Americans and pain (Bates, pp 25-41; 59-65; 79-97; Davitz LJ Suffering as Viewed in Six Different Cultures).  Write a one page critique based on the readings, and send it to your peers in Ecuador.  Send copies to Prof. Borja y Maldonado.

Students are required to work in groups and prepare a videotape of 10, 15 minutes.  The topic MUST be on pain and culture.  The video could involve true patients in pain (at home or hospital) or an interview with people who suffered from pain.

Los estudiantes ecuatorianos entrevistarán a personas mestizas sobre su actitud frente al dolor. Las personas deben estar o haber pasado por situaciones de dolor crónico o agudo (e.j., cáncer, accidentes, cirugias, mutilaciones, etc.). Cada estudiante debe crear una filmación de 15 minutos, y entrevistar por lo menos a 3 personas. Este video será enviado a Pitzer.
